To provide excellent service through a Knowledgeable and Professional Code Enforcement team.
Deliver the vision by working hand in hand with City Departments and other agencies; educating residents and business owners while preserving and enhancing Miami's diverse lifestyle.
Improving the Quality of Lives in Our
Communities
The Code Enforcement Department has been tasked
with enforcing the City's rules and regulations,
collecting fines when residents and business
owners are in violation, and with the ultimate
goal of improving the quality of life for
citizens as well as beautifying the City's
streets, business corridors, and neighborhoods.
The Department has been in operation since
December 2003 (at that time it separated from
the NET Department). Code Enforcement Officers
and administration have been involved in a
number of quality of life operations, as well as
a Tax Revenue Task Force, all of which have
garnered a significant amount of revenue for the
City and have also yielded many citations. The
Department also began implementing a rigorous
training program for officers involving a number
of courses designed to give them updated
information and to ensure that they maintain a
professional demeanor while they are in the
field.
"
It is the mission of the Code
Enforcement Division of the City of Miami to
work in partnership with the people of Miami
to promote and maintain a safe and desirable
living and working environment. We help
maintain or improve the quality of your
community by administering a fair and
unbiased enforcement program to correct
violations of municipal codes and land use
requirements."
Code Enforcement Officers are in contact with
City residents and business owners on a daily
basis. In an effort to elevate professionalism
and as part of the re-organization plan, the
Department of Code Enforcement has begun a
rigorous training program for all inspectors.
At this time, inspectors have completed courses
related to the alcoholic beverages ordinance,
radio procedures, outlook training, occupational
licenses, revenue task force, certified arborist
training, tree identification, city view, 311,
solid waste, historic districts, zoning
ordinance and certificate of use.
The Department has also enrolled a group of
Code Enforcement Officers in a program at
Florida Atlantic University that is conducted in
conjunction with the Florida Association of Code
Enforcement (F.A.C.E.). This is an intensive
program designed to educate students about the
legalities of code enforcement, as well as
develop their writing, management, and
interpersonal skills.
